Gympie Music Muster is zooming into the future this year, unveiling new radio frequency identification tags (RFID) wristbands to allow punters to get into the festival and pay for food and drinks with ease.
The high-tech wristbands will see the Muster's 12,000 festival goers simply buzzing their wrists at bars and stalls to pay, eliminating long lines and that ever-annoying dig into your pockets for cash. Attendees will get to top up their wristbands at deposit centers around the festival and are able to get back any cash they haven't used at the end of the four-day festival.
Gympie Muster's executive director David Gibson says, "We’re constantly in search of ways to make the Muster experience a little bit more enjoyable for our Muster Mates and bring down the barrier of logistics so everyone can really just enjoy the artists and the atmosphere we create, and not be burdened by drink tickets and all of those bottlenecks."
RFID technology is already heavily utilized at festivals like Coachella, Bonnaroo and Tomorrowland overseas, and used at Splendour In The Grass to offer a direct hook-in to social media. Along with a brand new app, Gympie Muster will have a slew of wifi vans around the festival grounds so it's easier than ever to jump online without getting kicked off the overburdened mobile phone networks constantly. Gympie Muster takes over Gympie from 25-28 August with headliners such as Kasey Chambers, Troy Cassar-Daley, Beccy Cole and more.
